Listening Prayer Sets the Captives Free

In 2015, after being a lukewarm Christian for twenty-five years, Father God lovingly rebuked my beliefs. He invited me to draw nearer to Him. It began my awakening to the “something more” my soul had longed for. I wrote about that journey in the Awakening Christian Series.

God and I used to have this incredible relationship where we would talk with each other non-stop. The conversation was ongoing, even if time passed between the last thing said. I didn’t worry about not hearing Him. I never begged for a word. It was truly effortless. And oh, so sweet.

It most definitely was not a reward for anything I said or did. I would have disqualified myself immediately. The best I can figure is that God desires this same kind of relationship with all of His children, and it’s based on His capacity for love, grace, and mercy, not our own. It’s incredibly humbling.

Then, for whatever reason, there was a dry spell of not hearing from Him as often or as clearly. I’m sure the fault was on my end.

But today, as in the past, I was walking through the kitchen when I heard, “One greater than Moses stands before you” and “Let My people go.”

Well, I learned a long time ago to test everything against Scripture, and unlike a dream, words and visions can be pretty literal in their interpretation, so this one excited me. Unpack this with me.

Hebrews 3:3 (AMP) says, Yet Jesus has been considered worthy of much greater glory and honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has more honor than the house.

Hebrews 3:4, And every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.

Matthew 16:18, Jesus says, “…and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

We know that Moses was the Hebrew lawgiver, but Christ came to fulfill the law and give us a new command.

John 13:34 (NKJV) says, “A new command I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.” Christ repeats “love one another” twice in the same sentence.

Exodus 9:1 (NKJV) Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go in to Pharoah and tell him: ‘Thus says the LORD God of the Hebrews: “Let My people go, that they may serve Me.’”

Exodus 32:32 (NKJV) “For I have caused My terror in the land of the living; And he shall be placed in the midst of the uncircumcised with those slain by the sword, Pharaoh and all his multitude,” says the Lord GOD.

But we know from Ephesians 6:17 that we’re to battle God’s enemy by taking the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

I’m sharing this word and this process with you to encourage you to listen carefully to God's words and then steward those words well. Document them in your journal. Consider it an invitation to a special time of Bible study. Allow God to work in your heart, and use that time to partner with Him in prayer. It’s not complicated or burdensome.

Father God, thank You for opening the ears of our hearts to hear You. Thank You for Your gift of the Word, which imparts wisdom to us so we can live our best lives. Lord Jesus, thank You for being the Captain of our Salvation and our Master Builder. Align our words with Yours so that we may join You in victory over the enemy of our souls. On this day, we declare in Jesus’ name that the sword of Your word slays Pharaoh and all his multitudes and that Your people are set free from every plague to serve the Living GOD. Thank You, Lord, that by the Power of Your Spirit, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. We thank You for freedom and justice as You work all things together for our good and move to make wrong things right. Thank You for Your faithful presence, which manifests as Truth and Love in and through our lives. It’s in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus we pray.

Amen.
