Standing Strong When Circumstances Wear Us Down

May 17, 2024 by Sallie Dawkins, in Healing

In Galatians 6:9, apostle Paul writes, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

I don’t know about you, but 2024 has not gone as I imagined. My body has felt weary and fragile.

The word “weary” in Galatians 6:9 comes from the Greek word “egkakao," which means to grow weary, give in to evil, or let something bad defeat you. Paul was telling us not to let evil get the best of us; not to give in to the evil that intends to defeat us, and not to let the dire circumstances wear us down or out.

We know that turbulence is a natural part of life. When trials come, we can be tempted to shrink back in fear or worry. However, if we remain rooted in faith, we can stand in the authority of Christ to command the enemy to go.

During trying times, we must surround ourselves with strong people of faith who will pray for us, encourage us, and offer Godly wisdom and guidance. We surround ourselves with people who understand God is not the author of sickness or disease.

When Job was attacked in his body and life, his wife encouraged him to “curse God and die” (Job 2:9). She encouraged him to give up. Divorce yourself from these kinds of people.

We can be honest with God about our feelings, but we must remember to watch our words and confessions. We don’t want to side with the enemy inadvertently. Satan’s tactic is to torment and harass us to the point of wearing us down. Still, we know that God sits on His throne and laughs (Psalm 2:4). God laughs at the exploits of the enemy because He knows His sons and daughters are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:37).

This year, I’ve learned that my faith could be made stronger. I’ve learned who my real friends are. I’ve learned that God loves me just as I am, but He lovingly exposes wrong thoughts because He wants me to receive the highest and best He has for me. Along the way, I’m seeing His hand on things. I’m leaning in to hear His whispers, and He’s faithfully protecting me, guiding me, and keeping me safe from harm.

It’s been a time of introspection. It can be helpful to periodically ask ourselves if we’re harboring any unforgiveness that would block us from receiving God’s blessings, disregarding God’s instructions, or if the enemy is attacking to see us drained and distracted from fulfilling our Kingdom assignments.

While the devil gets blamed for many things, sometimes we need to wake up to the many ways we may be inadvertently causing harm to ourselves. Are we ignoring our bodies? Are we masking areas of pain? Are we caring for the temple of the Living God with nutrient-dense foods, regular or intermittent fasting, and exercise or strength training? Are we taking time to slow down and rest or enjoy nature? Or are we rushing through our days hurriedly with the single goal of accomplishment and thereby missing God entirely?

3 John 2 (KJV) says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” The soul is comprised of the mind, will, and emotions. My friends, I encourage you to take care of yourselves. Hold tight to your healing. And if you need prayer, I’m happy to pray for you, just contact me.

I encourage you to hang on if you’re going through a difficult season. It won’t last forever. There is victory for those who don’t give up. Indeed, on the other side of this turbulence is a powerful testimony that will help others navigate what you’ve just walked through. All for God’s glory and the fame of His Name!

Hallelujah!
