CALLING ALL WRITERS Open Ark Story Submission Details
The Open Ark Series is a collection of true stories about animals written in a Christian devotional format to aid readers in growing in awareness of God’s presence.
In Job 12:7 (WEB), we read, “But ask the animals, now, and they will teach you; the birds of the sky, and they will tell you.”
Launched in December 2022 with Maggie’s Legacy, each volume of the Open Ark Series includes personal testimonies of love, lessons of correction, and a celebration of growing in awareness of God’s presence in daily routines with pets.
If you’ve read Maggie’s Legacy, you may recall, we almost titled that book, God Talks on Dog Walks. It was during that mundane time of walking the dog that author Sallie Dawkins first learned to hear the voice of God with clarity. Sallie shares, “Maggie’s corrections were often lessons of reflection for me as well, and as Maggie matured, I did, too.” (p. 2)
Do you have a story of how God used an animal’s unconditional love to bless or bring healing to your body, mind, emotions, spirit, or soul? Did your interactions with an animal save your life or cause you to grow in awareness of God’s presence? Has your pet taught you lessons about yourself, God, or others? Did God guide you to choose this pet? Did you struggle to say goodbye to your faithful friend?
If you have a story like this, we’d love to hear from you! You do not need to be a published author to be considered. We include family-friendly stories about animals: dogs, cats, chickens, sheep, horses, and more!
Are you interested in submitting your true story? Story submission deadlines are twice per year, on March 1st and Sept 1st.
All of our stories/chapters follow the same simple structure you’ll find in Maggie’s Legacy, including:
- Testimony or story of 700-1000 words, written in a first-person account,
- Scriptures to Ponder,
- Questions for Prayer or Journaling,
- Closing Prayer, and
- Optional photo of your pet.
Please, carefully proofread your stories before submission. We prefer all submissions to be in .doc or .pdf formats. Include your complete contact information (name, email, phone, and mailing/street address) on each page, and submit to our STORY SUBMISSIONS REVIEW TEAM.
Firebrand United, LLC, publishes the Open Ark Series. If we select your story, our publisher will ask you to sign a release granting them permission to include your original work in our publication.
Publishing books is an expensive and time-consuming undertaking. Usual charges for content editing, proofreading, formatting, cover design, and registrations typically range between $3,000-12,000 per book, depending on the length and complexity of the material. Since we do not charge writers’ submission fees or publishing fees, we cannot pay authors for their story submissions. If we select your story for publication, we’ll forward a single gift copy of the book upon publication.
You can be proud knowing that your story is part of a more significant work meant to fulfill Habakkuk 2:14 (KJV), “For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.”
